Silica gel, a form of silicon dioxide (SiO2), is a highly porous material known for its exceptional ability to absorb moisture. Its physical appearance ranges from granular or beaded, transparent to opaque.

Effective Moisture Absorption

This desiccant efficiently manages relative humidity levels by adsorbing moisture up to 40% of its weight, effectively lowering the humidity to 40% in enclosed spaces. This protects against mould, mildew, corrosion, and material degradation, ensuring stored items’ shelf life and integrity.

Our silica gel is non-toxic, odourless, and stable, making it a safe choice for use with food and pharmaceuticals. It’s designed for longevity and can be regenerated through heating for repeated use. Available in various specifications, sizes, and packaging options, it meets a wide range of application needs.

We offer silica gel that maintains consistent quality and high performance, adhering to safety and environmental standards. Manufactured to the international standards, the desiccant provides effective moisture control solutions across a broad spectrum of industries. We offer a comprehensive range of loose desiccants featuring diverse granule sizes and packaging options, including silica gel bags, drums, and pails.

Type Description Applications
White Silica Gel (Non-Indicating) Translucent white, does not change color as it absorbs moisture. General moisture absorption in storage or packaging without the need for moisture level monitoring.
Blue Silica Gel (Indicating) Contains a moisture indicator that changes from blue to pink when saturated. Applications where visual indication of moisture absorption is useful, such as in air dryers and electronic equipment cases.
Orange Silica Gel (Indicating) Changes from orange to green when fully saturated, does not contain cobalt chloride. Moisture-sensitive areas where safety or environmental concerns are paramount, and visual indication is important.
Silica Gel with Indicator (Mixed) A mix of white non-indicating and blue or orange indicating beads. Cost-effective solution for packaging, electronic storage, and archival with priorities on cost efficiency and moisture indication.
Type A Silica Gel High pore volume and surface area, effective at adsorbing moisture at high humidity levels. Drying and cleaning of air and gases, packaging of electronic components, pharmaceutical uses.
Type B Silica Gel Intermediate pore size, balances moisture absorption rate and capacity. Versatile for drying applications and moisture control in product packaging and storage.
Type C Silica Gel Lower pore volume and surface area, designed for low humidity moisture absorption tasks. Moisture control at lower relative humidity levels, such as in museum and archive storage.
Macro-Pored Silica Gel Larger pores, ideal for adsorbing larger molecules like aromatics. Chemical purification, chromatography, catalyst carrier.

1. Determine the Required Amount

  • Calculate Volume: First, estimate the volume of the area or container where the silica gel is planned for use.
  • Use Guidelines: As a general rule, approximately 5-10 grams of silica gel per cubic foot of space is recommended. Adjust the amount based on specific moisture control needs and the conditions of the storage area.

2. Choose the Appropriate Type

  • Select Silica Gel Type: Choose from non-indicating, indicating (blue or orange), or a mix, depending on whether a visual indicator of moisture absorption is needed..

3. Prepare the Container or Area

  • Ensure Cleanliness: Clean the area or container thoroughly before adding silica gel to prevent contamination. It should be dry and free of debris.
  • Add Silica Gel: Spread the silica gel evenly across the bottom of the container or area. If dealing with a large space, consider distributing the silica gel in multiple locations to ensure even moisture absorption.

4. Maintenance and Monitoring

  • For Indicating Silica Gel: Monitor the color change (from blue to pink for blue silica gel, or from orange to green for orange silica gel) to assess moisture saturation. Once fully saturated, the silica gel should be replaced or regenerated.
  • For Non-Indicating Silica Gel: Without visual indicators, consider using humidity indicator cards to monitor moisture levels or replace/regenerate the silica gel at regular intervals based on expected moisture exposure.

5. Regeneration (if applicable)

  • Regenerate Silica Gel: Most silica gel can be regenerated by heating it to remove absorbed moisture. Spread the gel on a shallow baking sheet and place it in an oven at 120-150°C (250-300°F) for 1-2 hours. Allow to cool before reusing. Note: The exact temperature and time may vary based on the silica gel type.

6. Safety Precautions

  • Handle with Care: While silica gel is non-toxic, it can be a choking hazard and should be kept away from children and pets.
  • Wear Protective Gear: When handling large quantities or regenerating silica gel, protective gloves and masks should be used to avoid inhalation of fine particles or contact irritation.
