Activated Alumina

Activated Alumina

Activated Alumina, also known as aluminium oxide, is often used as a desiccant for various purposes due to its robust nature. With a high surface area of over 200m2g, it can absorb many different substances such as liquid and gases, while its form remains unchanged. As air pass through it, the water in the air sticks to the alumina and becomes trapped, and the air that passes through is dried out. Even in liquid, it will not fall apart. With its various properties, such as high water adsorption capacity, mechanical strength and low attrition loss, the desiccant can give a dew point of at least -40°C and up to -70°C when under high pressure.

When exposed to moisture in the long run, the Activated Alumina adsorbs. The contaminant will bond with the alumina and will only be restored to its full capacity by heating it at a high temperature from 177°C to 316°C. As previously mentioned, the water stuck to the alumina will be released when it is heated. Therefore, the alumina can now be reused multiple times. Activated Alumina is very stable and will bond with other substances without changing its form. Thus, its surface area is much larger than its weight and can absorb more efficiently. Additionally, this product’s physical and chemical features make it essential for everyday and business needs.

Application
  • Purifying of water for industrial, water treatment plants, and home uses. It is done by removing fluoride, arsenic, and selenium from drinking water.
  • Removal of catalyst residue in ethylene products
  • Absorbing of catalyst in polythene and hydrogen peroxide products
  • Cleaning of process stream by removing HF, Chloride of HCI from contaminated gas
