Our Humidity Indicator Cards (HICs) are equipped with moisture-sensitive spots that visibly change colour according to the surrounding humidity levels. This feature acts as a clear indicator when the environment’s moisture exceeds safe levels, making it easy to monitor and protect your products from potential humidity damage.

Included with a moisture barrier bag and a desiccant, our HICs offer a straightforward, affordable solution for reliable humidity measurement. They are designed to meet the stringent requirements of MIL-I-8835 applications and comply with both the MS20003-2 and JEDEC standards, ensuring quality and reliability.

Available in two variants, Cobalt Dichloride-Free and Cobalt-Free, our HICs cater to a variety of needs and applications. Both options adhere to EU Reach regulations, providing a safe and environmentally responsible choice for monitoring humidity. We also provide customisable solutions, including specialised printing to tailor to specific needs and branding requirements.

Cobalt Dichloride Free

Cobalt Dichloride-Free Humidity Indicator Cards, often recognized by their distinctive color change from blue to pink, utilize a specialized formulation that reacts to specific humidity levels. Unlike traditional cards, these do not contain cobalt chloride, ensuring safer use and environmental compliance.

The color transition provides a clear, visual indication when the ambient relative humidity (RH) crosses a predefined threshold. These cards are designed to cover a wide RH range, from as low as 5% up to 60%, catering to diverse monitoring needs. Specific models are tailored to meet stringent industry standards:

  • The 30%, 40%, 50% RH Indicator Cards are manufactured in accordance with MS20003-2 standards.
  • The 5%, 10%, 15% RH Indicator Cards adhere to the JEDEC Standard 033.
  • Additionally, cards covering 5%, 10% to 60% RH are compliant with JEDEC Standard 033B.

Cobalt Free

Cobalt-Free Humidity Indicator Cards, distinguished by their innovative brown to azure (blue) color shift, uses a copper chloride base to accurately respond to changes in humidity.

Engineered for safety and environmental responsibility, these cards eliminate the use of cobalt chloride, aligning with the European Community Council Directive 67/548/ECC for safer handling and disposal. Available across a comprehensive range of Relative Humidity (RH) levels from 5% to 60% ensuring precise humidity monitoring:

  • The 30%, 40%, 50% RH Indicator Cards are in compliance with the MS20003-2 standard, ensuring their reliability in critical applications.
  • The 5%, 10%, 15% RH Indicator Cards adhere to the JEDEC Standard 033, making them suitable for electronics and other sensitive equipment.
  • For broader applications, cards covering 5%, 10% to 60% RH meet the requirements of JEDEC Standard 033B.

Selection of Appropriate HICs

  • Choose the Right Range: Select HICs that cover the RH range relevant to specific application or product sensitivity.
  • Type of Indicator: Depending on the sensitivity of the items being protected.

Handling Before Use

  • Handle with Care: HICs should be handled by the edges to avoid contamination or damage to the indicator spots.
  • Storage Conditions: Store unused HICs in a sealed container or the original packaging to prevent premature exposure to humidity.

Placement in Packaging

  • Visibility: Place the HIC where it can be easily seen without opening the package or container fully.
  • Avoid Direct Contact: Ensure the HIC does not directly touch any items within the package, as direct contact might affect the card’s performance or damage the product.
  • Use with Desiccants: When used in conjunction with desiccants, ensure the HIC is placed in a location that reflects the overall humidity conditions within the package and is not shielded by the desiccant.

Interpreting Indicators

  • Understand Color Indicators: Familiarize with the color guide provided with the HICs. Colors change based on the RH level, indicating whether the environment is within safe humidity levels.
  • Regular Checks: For long-term storage, check the HIC at regular intervals to ensure RH levels remain within acceptable ranges.

Responding to Indication Changes

  • Take Immediate Action: If an HIC indicates that the RH level has exceeded safe limits, inspect the package for breaches and assess the condition of the contents. Take corrective action to reestablish appropriate conditions.
  • Replacement of HICs: If the RH level returns to safe levels and the HICs used are reversible, they can continue to be used. However, if irreversible HICs are used or if reversible HICs no longer respond accurately, replace them.
