Dunnage Bags

The highest forces during trucking often appear in the accelerating or braking process. Despite paying attention to the roads, there may be a possibility of an emergency brake. As they drive through corners and waves on the highway may ignite a high force on the cargo, causing movement and impacts to the goods. During shipping, the heavy seas cause intense forces that may result in the movement of the cargo. On the other hand, transporting goods by rail may set forces four times higher than from the sea or road transit. Vertical driving direction and reverse forces are especially tremendous. Thus, despite incorporating a safe strapping and/or lashing system to secure the cargo, Dunnage Bags should also be used.

Dunnage Bags are used to secure cargo and create a bulkhead during transit. Dunnage Bags are great void fillers to prevent movement and absorb impacts in a sea container, rail car, truck, vessel, or intermodal. Dunnage Bags combine IN-LINER (also known as the bladder or balloon) which hold the compressed airtight at high-pressure levels, and OUT-LINER (the cover) to give the Dunnage Bags the shape, stability and enormous strength. To ensure perfect tightness even under high pressure, all our Dunnage Bags IN-LINER are made of specially extruded polyethene (PE-mixture).

At Stream Peak, the OUT-LINER of Dunnage Bags come in two different materials – Kraft Paper and Woven Polypropylene (PP). The Kraft Paper Dunnage Bags are the most common Dunnage Bags used worldwide. Available in 1, 2, 4, and 6 plies, the Kraft Paper Dunnage Bags can be applied to the in-liner in multiple layers, making it extremely strong. On the other hand, the Woven PP Dunnage Bags make a good alternative to Paper Dunnage Bags as they are lighter and recyclable. Besides, the woven PP Dunnage Bags are water-resistant.

During application, place the Dunnage Bag in the gaps between the cargo and start inflating the airbag with compressed air. To fill the Dunnage Bags with ease, simply use our valve systems. At Stream Peak, the two types of valve systems available are Standard Valve and MEGAFlow fast filling valve. The bag is filled enough when it sits tight and unmovable in the vault. Ensure that the bags are not overfilled with compressed air to avoid damage to the cargo.
